Overcoming Anger Meditation Retreat
Most of us tend to think that our problems are coming at us from outside of our mind - from other people, from situations, or even from our own intrinsic shortcomings. Buddhist teachings, however, show that all our problems actually arise from our habitual ways of responding to things. If we can learn to respond to challenging situations with peaceful states of mind, gradually we will have fewer and fewer problems. This mini meditation retreat will share timeless methods to let go of anger, irritation, and resentment and cultivate positive and peaceful responses to life’s challenges.
Sunday Morning Meditation -Prayers for Peace: New Eight Steps to Happiness
Our mind has the power to make good things happen in our own personal life and in the world at large. The key is to establish, in our own mind, the causes of the world we want to see, by developing a heart that cherishes everyone.
This course provides training in step-by-step methods to powerful change. We also engage in group prayers during the class to combine and amplify our intention toward world peace and happiness.

“ Why do we need to practice Buddha’s teachings? The answer is very simple. It is because we want to be happy all the time, and we can fulfill this wish only by putting Buddha’s teachings into practice.” -from “The Mirror of Dharma, How to find the real meaning of human life.” - by Geshe Kelsang Gyatso
Do you meditate, or have you at least tried? More and more people are realizing that meditation is essential for our peace and happiness. Starting a daily meditation practice doesn’t have to be difficult, and meditating doesn’t have to take a long time. Nancy will introduce the basics of meditation practice based on Buddha’s teachings on Lamrim, the stages of the path to Enlightenment. Each class will include at least one guided breathing meditation for ten or fifteen minutes, teachings from the book, one guided meditation on the teachings and Q&A.

“All the happiness there is in this world arises from wishing others to be happy.” -Shantideva, quoted in The New Meditation Handbook
All our present and future happiness depends on our cherishing others - on our wanting others to be happy. This is real love, and the foundation of the compassion and wisdom that are the path to enlightenment. The immediate effect of cherishing others will be that many of our daily problems, such as those that arise from anger, jealousy, and selfish behavior, will disappear, and our mind will become calm and peaceful.
In these classes, Nancy will introduce the main Mahayana Buddhist meditations that are the path to enlightenment. Start at the beginning of the series if you can, but if you miss the beginning then start when you are able.
