“Dharma instructions teach us how to make ourself and others happy.” - Geshe Kelsang Gyatso, The New Meditation Handbook
We all want to be happy, but how often do we seek happiness outside ourself? It might seem like a cliché, but it’s true that we’ll never be happy with anyone else if we’re not happy with ourself. The first step to finding happiness inside ourself is working on our own mind. Therefore, the basic Buddhist meditations are for establishing happiness within our own mind.
In these classes, Nancy Fox will introduce and guide the basic Buddhist meditations for establishing happiness within our own mind.

“In his Dharma teachings, Buddha advises us not to seek happiness outside ourself, but to establish it within our mind.” - Geshe Kelsang Gyatso, How to Solve Our Human Problems
When things go wrong in our life and we encounter difficult situations, we tend to regard the situation itself as our problem, but in reality whatever problems we experience come from the side of the mind. If we were to respond to difficult situations with a positive or peaceful mind they would not be problems for us; indeed, we may even come to regard them as challenges or opportunities for growth and development.
Problems arise only if we respond to difficulties with a negative state of mind. Therefore, if we want to be free from problems, we must transform our mind.
In these classes, Ethan Lechner will introduce the nature and continuity of the mind, using meditation as a tool to purify and control our mind.

The Power of Prayer: The Liberating Prayer Meditation Retreat
Prayer is a method to focus our mind’s intention to make good things happen. It can be used to improve our good qualities and good heart. Prayer enables us develop a mind of inner peace, compassion, and wisdom, through which we can solve all our problems and be of greatest benefit to others.
The Liberating Prayer is a special prayer of praises and requests to Buddha Shakyamuni composed by the modern meditation master Venerable Geshe Kelsang Gyatso. In this morning retreat we will learn how to use this prayer to attain spiritual realizations easily.

Empowerment of Manjushri
An empowerment is a guided visualization and ceremony in which we make a strong connection with a particular Buddha. Through this connection we receive that Buddha’s blessings and plant the seeds in our own mind to develop his or her enlightened qualities.
Buddha Manjushri is the embodiment of the wisdom of all the Buddhas. When we open ourself to receiving Manjushri’s blessings, our mind is empowered to experience deep insight into the truth of how things exist.
Join us for this very special Blessing Empowerment of Buddha Manjushri granted by Resident Teacher, Kadam Ethan Lechner. Everybody is welcome.

Overcoming Anger Meditation Retreat
Most of us tend to think that our problems are coming at us from outside of our mind - from other people, from situations, or even from our own intrinsic shortcomings. Buddhist teachings, however, show that all our problems actually arise from our habitual ways of responding to things. If we can learn to respond to challenging situations with peaceful states of mind, gradually we will have fewer and fewer problems. This mini meditation retreat will share timeless methods to let go of anger, irritation, and resentment and cultivate positive and peaceful responses to life’s challenges.

“There is no evil greater than anger, and no virtue greater than patience. Therefore, I should strive in various ways to become familiar with the practice of patience.” - Shantideva, quoted in How to Solve Our Human Problems
Do you ever find yourself in situations in which it seems impossible to keep a happy mind? Even after getting out of an unhealthy relationship or a bad situation, do you still find yourself tormented by old resentments that continue to burn, even years later? If so, then these classes are for you!
In these classes, we will explore tried and tested methods for letting go of, not repressing, anger and resentment, without taking it out on others. The practice of patient acceptance, when combined with wisdom and compassion, is the most effective way to work with our unhappy feelings, learn from them, and then heal our mind and our heart so that we can finally get some peace.

Thursday Evening Meditation -Basic Buddhist Meditation: Finding Happiness Inside Ourself
“Since inner peace is the source of all happiness, we can see how important meditation is.” - The New Meditation Handbook, Geshe Kelsang Gyatso
Do you meditate, or have you at least tried? More and more people are realizing that meditation is essential for our peace and happiness. Starting a daily meditation practice doesn’t have to be difficult, and meditating doesn’t have to take a long time. (In fact, less might be more, so to speak, in the beginning).
In these classes, Nancy will introduce the basics of meditation practice. Each class will include at least one guided breathing meditation for ten or fifteen minutes, teachings, and at least one guided meditation on the teachings. Topics will include how to start training in meditation, as well as how to progress in meditation practice. Start at the beginning of the series if you can, but if you miss the beginning then start when you are able.

Meditation classes for everyone with Kadam Ethan
“You should know sufferings. You should abandon origins. You should attain cessations. You should practice the path.” - Buddha, Sutra of the Four Noble Truths
Do you ever feel like you just want to be happy, but the harder you try to get certain things, the more unhappy you become? Usually, we tend to blame other people or external situations for our suffering and problems, but if we let go of the distractions and negativities in our own mind, external influences will have less and less power to make us unhappy.
These introductory classes will help us to see the underlying causes of our mental pain and dissatisfaction, then take a solution-oriented approach to letting go of the bad mental habits that keep us stuck.

This course provides training in step-by-step methods to powerful change. We also engage in group prayers during the class to combine and amplify our intention toward world peace and happiness.
